Worcester- Thomas F. Curran, 93, of 59 Evelyn Street, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, in St. Vincent Hospital.
His wife of 45 years, Mary (Krounialis) died in 1985. He leaves a son, Thomas F. Curran Jr. of Holden, and many loving nieces and nephews. Two sisters, Elizabeth Farrell and Mary Holloway, and two brothers, John J. and James E. Curran, all of Worcester, predeceased him.
Born in Worcester, he was the son of Michael F. and Agnes B. (Quinn) Curran. He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade School and retired from Norton Company in 1972 after 33 years of perfect attendance. He was a combat veteran of Wolrd War II, serving in Sicily and Belgium.
He was an avid sports participant and fan. In his youth, he was a pitcher for local semi-pro teams and then groundskeeper for the New York Yankees where he knew many baseball greats. He also played football for the Providence Steamrollers. He coached the Worcester Warriors and the Gehrig Little League. He was Worcester Academy’s Number 1 sports fan.He loved music and had a strong tenor voice singing with the Auburn Swingers.
The funeral will be held Friday, Aug. 29, from Henry-Dirsa Funeral Home, 33 Ward Street, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in North American Martyrs Church, 8 Wyoma Drive, Auburn. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. A calling hour is from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29, in the funeral home.
