Michael Skiba, 98, of Summerville, husband of 74 years to Rose Szymansky Skiba died Monday, September 28, 2009 at White Oak Manor, North Charleston.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 24, 2009 at 1:00 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Summerville.
Mr. Skiba was born October 16, 1910 in Donora, Pennsylvania, son of the late John and Mary Skiba. His greatest joy in life was talking about the good news of God’s kingdom and helping people understand what the bible really taught. His home was an oasis of Christian hospitality to all and everyone felt welcome. He was a member of the Summerville Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. In addition to traveling to visit with his grandchildren he enjoyed gardening, cooking, wine making and being a small scale gentleman farmer. He retired from General Motors and in April of 1990 moved to the Summerville Area to be near his daughter and her family. Surviving in addition to his wife are: daughter: Mary Katherine Weaver and her husband Bruce of Summerville, son: Gary Michael Skiba and his wife Janet of Frankenmuth, Michigan, 5 grandchildren: Michael Gary Weaver of Beaufort, Timothy Johnathon Weaver of Summerville, Jason Garret Skiba of Florida, Amanda Katherine Gallagher of Colorado and Jordan Gabriel Skiba of Indiana, 4 great grandchildren: Katilin, Madylyn, Peyton and Kenliey.
