Ernest P. Marcure, 64, of Scituate, died Sunday, October 18, 2009 at Rhode Island Hospital with his family at his side. He was the beloved husband of Elaine (Pelleccione) Marcure, his soul mate of 42 years. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Ernest Marcure and the late Viola (Santilli) Marcure. He was the loving father of Erik Marcure and his wife Stacey (Pacheco) Marcure of West Warwick, Elise Marcure of Smithfield and Alexander Marcure of Burrillville. He was a loving Papa to his grandchildren Zachary and Madison. He was the brother of Anne (Marcure) Morin and her husband Robert Morin and the late Carmine Marcure. He is also survived by nephews, nieces and cousins.
Ernie graduated from West Warwick High School, and later graduated from Rhode Island College with a Bachelors of Science degree in Education. He received a Masters of Arts degree from the University of Rhode Island and later earned a Masters of Education degree from Rhode Island College.
He had taught at Coventry High School for 31 years and was the Fine Arts Dept. Chairperson. He had also served on many subcommittees in the high school and the district and served on the building committee of the Coventry Community Center. He was an evaluator for the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, and President of the RI Technology Educators. He received the RI Technology Educator teacher of the year award and the Rhode Island College Alumni Honor Roll award. He was an Adjunct Professor at Rhode Island College.
He enlisted in the Army National Guard and was a graduate of the Rhode Island Officer Candidate School. He was the Battery Commander of Headquarters and later A Battery 2ND Battalion 103RD Field Artillery. He was the owner, architect, and general contractor of Rustic Home Designs. For many years he designed and constructed homes throughout R.I. and Martha’s Vineyard. He was a parishioner of Saint Joseph Church in Scituate and served as CYO advisor, coach, choir member Eucharistic minister, lector, and charter member of the Father Feeney Council of Knights of Columbus.
In the town of Scituate, he served as president of the parents association, various town subcommittees, was chairperson of the Scituate Task Force (SAFE), director of the Scituate Teen Center, and taught after school courses to middle school students. He also served three terms on the Scituate School Committee, the high school building committee, the Scituate Lions, and the Scituate F.O.P.A.
He was the recipient of the distinguished Howard Kaye Award recognized by the entire state of RI for his service to the Scituate School Committee as well as the 2009 recipient of ‘Citizen of the Year” for the town of Scituate.
Ernie enjoyed basketball, tennis, kayaking, biking, golf and traveling. He enjoyed and loved his family and friends very much. Most of all, he was blessed with a wife that brought joy and happiness all the days of his life. It is Ernie’s wish, in celebrating his life to please refrain from wearing traditional black.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 10am in St. Joseph Church, 149 Danielson Pike, Scituate. Burial will be private. Visitation will be Wednesday 4-7pm in the ANDERSON -WINFIELD Funeral Home, Rt 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville.
