TEWKSBURY - William S. "Bill" MacKay Jr., age 74, a Veteran and member of the Tewksbury Housing Authority's maintenance team, died Saturday, October 17, at the Seacoast Nursing Care Center in Gloucester, following a long illness. He was the husband of Anne M. (Pozzi) MacKay.
He was born in Tewksbury, May 13, 1935, the son of the late William S. MacKay and Dorothy S. Brown, and was a lifelong resident of the town. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War era, stationed in Hawaii. Upon discharge, he worked as a driver for 24 years at the Cooper-Jarrett Freight Transportation Company in North Reading, and was a member of Boston Teamsters AFL-CIO, Local 25. He joined the Tewksbury Housing Authority in 1982, and worked as a maintenance repairman for the past 27 years.
Bill was a former member of the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks, enjoyed his times with his family at Baboosic Lake in Amherst, NH, and was especially happy when in the company of his grandchildren and great grandson. He also liked to spend time with his Keno friends at the Little Peach convenience store in South Tewksbury.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three children, John MacKay and his wife Sandra (Desharnais) of Tewksbury, Cheryle Maloon of Amherst, NH, Heather Adelfio and her husband Vincent of Gloucester; six grandchildren, Melissa Curran of Lowell, Michael and Matthew MacKay both of Tewksbury, Marguerite Maloon of Amherst, NH, Cecelia and Stefano Adelfio both of Gloucester; a great grandson, Tobias; and was gleefully expecting the birth of his second great grandchild in November.
His Funeral was held Sunday afternoon, October 25, in the funeral home. Memorials to the Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923, will be appreciated.
