Ethel "Granny" (Allison) Wood, 94 of New Bedford died January 14, 2002 at home after a brief illness.
She was the wife of the late retired New Bedford Police Captain Frederick Wood and daughter of the late Walter and Sarah L. (Riding) Allison.
Mrs. Wood was born in Chorley, Lancashire, England and had lived in New Bedford for most of her life.She was a member of St. Martin's Episcopal Church.
Mrs. Wood was formerly employed by Cornell-Dublier for many years until her retirement.
She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and swimming.
Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Trudy Wood of East Freetown; her sister, Bertha Rego of New Bedford; her sister-in-law, Madeline Allison of New Bedford; 4 grandchildren, Frederick F. Wood of Freetown, Dawn Marie Westgate of Wareham, Deborah Lyn Santos of Taunton and Daniel Allen Wood of Freetown; and 8 great-grandchildren.
She was the mother of the late Frederick R. Wood and sister of the late Walter Allison, Jennie Morgan, Clarice Hall and Annie Hicks.
