SOUTH EASTON - Maria C. “Sadie” (Santos) Shurtleff, wife of the late Philip V. Shurtleff, died at her home on Oct. 12, 2009 at the age of 86.
She was also the wife of the late Manuel Soares, Jr.
Born in Central Falls, RI; she was the daughter of the late Elias and Luciana (deJesus) Santos.
A resident of So. Easton for the past 6 years, she was raised and educated in Taunton, and later worked for the former Paul A. Dever School for over 30 years, retiring many years ago.
She also resided in Onset for a while.
Mrs. Shurtleff will be fondly remembered as one who loved life, and being in the company of her family and friends.
She enjoyed music, singing, and dancing, as well as cooking, although her favorite moments were those spent with her grandchildren.
Survivors include three sons, Philip V. Shurtleff, Jr. of St. Petersburg, FL, Ronald L. Shurtleff of Taunton, Manuel Soares III and his wife Betty of S. Easton; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was also the mother of the late Laura “Sis” Chandler, Diane Arruda and Debra Soares.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to home health aide, Kimberly Wilding of Beacon Hospice, who went out of her way to supply Mrs. Shurtleff with help and support.
Her funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Saturday, Oct. 17th at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Anthony Church, Taunton at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Taunton.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Friday, Oct. 16th from 5 to 8 p.m.
