David R. DeBerry, 50, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Tuesday, October 13, 2009, at Tift Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Friday, October 16 at the Ocilla United Methodist Church with Rev. Scott Brenton and Elder Mickey Harris officiating. Will Beecher will give the eulogy. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held 7-9 Thursday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mr. DeBerry was born October 27, 1958 in Irwin County to Joyce Rowe Satterfield and the late Charles R. DeBerry. After the death of his father in 1960, he was raised by his father, Durward Satterfield. Mr. DeBerry lived in Irwin County all of his life, graduating from Irwin County High School in 1976 and he attended ABAC. He was a former teacher at East Central Technical College, former owner/operator of David’s Farm Repair, former employee of Sutton Tractor Company and a project manager for Frontier Builders. Mr. DeBerry was an active member of the Ocilla United Methodist Church, where he served as the Sunday school superintendent, a trustee and was on the administrative board. He was a Mason and he participated in the Walk to Emmaus.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Taylor DeBerry of Ocilla; daughters, Hope DeBerry (Chuck) Folker of Ocilla and Heather DeBerry (Will) Beecher of Mt. Pleasant, SC; mother, Joyce Rowe Satterfield of Irwin County; grandchildren, Keegan Folker, Cali Grace Folker and Hayes Beecher; brothers, Rick DeBerry of Macon and Gerald (Cathy) Satterfield of Irwin County as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his fathers, Charles R. DeBerry and Durward Satterfield.
