Dorothy H. DeMarais

...retired from Tewksbury’s North St. School; 81

TEWKSBURY - Dorothy H. (Hillier) DeMarais, 81, a well known resident of Tewksbury, diedMonday afternoon, Jan. 14, at the Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, surrounded by her family. She was the wife of Norman J. DeMarais, with whom she had celebrated a 60th weddinganniversary this past July 20th.

She was born in Tewksbury, July 16, 1920, a daughter of the late Charles and Mary J. (Marsh)Hillier. She was raised in Watertown, Mass., and graduated Watertown High School in 1938.She returned to Tewksbury 57 years ago.

She was retired from the Tewksbury School Department’s lunch program, having worked at theNorth Street School cafetiere for 28 years.

Throughout her life she remained active at St. William’s Parish, and was a member of the church’sBlessed Virgin Mary Sodality.

In her earlier years, she was active in the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary in Tewksbury, and alsoworked voter registration at the polls for the Town of Tewksbury.

In her later years, she was extremely active at the Tewksbury Senior Drop-in Center. She enjoyedcrafts at the Sr. Center, and was a frequent traveler on senior outings and senior trips.

Besides her husband, she is survived by one son, Norman DeMarais of Tewksbury, a member ofthe faculty at the Parker Middle School in Chelmsford, one daughter, Nancy A. Rivet ofWestford, employed by Edward Connolly Insurance Agency in Westford, two sisters and abrother-in-law, Ann and her husband Robert LaRochelle of CT and Mary “Mae” Chisholm ofWatertown, three grandchildren, Jennifer and her husband David Heller of MD, Melissa Rivet ofBrighton, Theodore “T.J.” and his wife Beth (Magnuson) Rivet of Lowell, 4 great grandchildren,Jake and Abbey Heller, Jack and Ben Rivet, and her dearest friends, Judith and Len Smith ofTewksbury and their children, Joseph Smith of Methuen, Lori Bergquist of Royalston, SaraCorbin of Marlboro, and many nieces and nephews and long time friends.

She was also sister of the late Charles S. Hillier.

Her Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, Jan. 19, at 10:00a.m. in St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St. (Rte 38) Tewksbury. Visiting hours Friday 2 to 5and 7 to 9 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment in Tewksbury Cemetery.
