Obituary

Charles E. "Charlie" McCoy, a 54 year resident of Wakefield, died unexpectedly on Monday, October 12, 2009, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was 85 years old.

Charlie was born in Chicago, Illinois, on March 31, 1924. He grew up in Everett for a short period of time and graduated from Everett High School. Charlie worked as a foreman at Monsanto Chemical Company in Everett for 40 years and retired as a supervisor in 1986. Following his retirement, he began working as a collection manager at Eagle Freight for the last 23 years. He was a member of the Most Blessed Sacrament Church Holy Name Society in Wakefield. Charlie loved visiting his children's homes and enjoying his spare time with his grandchildren.

Charlie is the beloved husband and best friend of 62 years to Grace M. (McCarthy) McCoy. He is the devoted father of Gracemarie Flaherty and her husband James of Reading, Charles B. McCoy and his wife Elizabeth of Atkinson, New Hampshire, Maureen A. O'Brien and her husband Michael of Reading, Mark S. McCoy and his wife Cheryl of Clifton Park, New York, and Phillip S. McCoy and his wife Suzy of Reading. He is the loving Pops & Grampy to Christine, Jimmy, Shawn, Megan, Michael, Nicholas, Patrick, Morgan, Kristen, Mark, Kelly, Jake, Yale and his great-grandson; Cameron. He is the beloved brother of Margaret Morris and her late husband Robert of Billerica and Grace Garron and her husband Paul of Florida. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Charlie's Funeral will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2009, at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 1159 Main Street, Wakefield/Melrose line, followed by his Funeral Mass in The Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main Street, Wakefield, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours will be on Friday, October 16, 2009, from 4 to 7 p.m. His interment will be private.
