Obituary

Edna Tommie Owens Sherrer, 82, of Macon, died Monday, October 12, 2009, at Oaks at Peake Nursing Home in Macon.

Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M., Saturday, October 17, 2009 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with Rev. B.J. Funk officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Friday evening at the funeral home.

Mrs. Sherrer was born June 6, 1927 in Fitzgerald to the late Thomas Hardy and Lucy Mitchell Owens. She was a graduate of Fitzgerald High School and a graduate of Georgia Southern College in Statesboro. She taught school in Ben Hill County and in Bibb County. After leaving the classroom, she tutored privately for many years. Mrs. Sherrer has lived in Macon since 1945, where she was a member of Ingleside Baptist Church in Macon. She was a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha International Sorority, Beta Phi Chapter and Women of the Moose.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law: Henry “Hank” & Jennifer Sherrer of Macon; daughter: Paula Elizabeth “Beth” Smith of Macon and a loving grandson: Tyler Sherrer of Macon; brother-in-law: Alton "Alt" (Lamurle) Sherrer as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Henry S. Sherrer, three sisters: Elizabeth Herring, Dorothy Garrett, and Evelyn Kelley Combs and three brothers: W.B. "Butch" Owens, Everett Owens, and Thomas Hardy Owens, Jr.
