Edward B. Donaldson, 89, of Hollywood, SC entered into eternal rest on Saturday, October 10, 2009.
Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at 2 o’clock at James A. Dyal Funeral Home, 303 South Main Street, Summerville. Entombment will follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens, Charleston. Friends and family may visit at funeral home this evening from 5 until 7 o’clock. Flowers will be accepted or memorials made to the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 118, Hollywood, SC 29449.
Mr. Donaldson was born December 23, 1919 in Pembroke, GA, son of the late Perry and Essie Donaldson and widower of Lucy Adams Donaldson whom he was married to for 52 years. He was a very devoted, kind hearted and loving father. Mr. Donaldson, as a small boy moved to the Meggett area and eventually moved into the town of Hollywood where he resided for 70 plus years. He was an Exxon business owner in the town of Hollywood for 30 plus years before retirement. As a young man he served as a volunteer fireman for the St. Paul’s Fire Department and in later years his service expanded to Fire Commissioner. His service totaled 35 years. He loved the community in which he lived and worked with great pride. He was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church for 65 years and was the oldest member in the congregation. Some of the greatest joys in his life were attending church, working in his yard, cutting his grass and people watching from his back porch.
Surviving are: Daughter: Bobbie Smoak and her husband Terry of Charleston; Son: Rusty Donaldson and his wife Karen of Huntersville, NC; 3 Grandchildren: Lee Donaldson, Kristen Walker, and Ashley Smoak Corley all of Charleston.
