John F. “Jack” Danahy 82 years old, of Brockton died unexpectedly Saturday October10, 2009 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. He was the devoted and loving husband of Elizabeth A. “Betty” (Heney) Danahy for 59 years. Jack was born in Canton and raised in Stoughton a son of the late Thomas P. and Mary E. (Murphy) Danahy. For the past 59 years he had been a resident of Brockton. Following his graduation in 1943 from Stoughton High School Jack enlisted in the US Marine Corps. During WW II he served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart.
Jack retired in 1990 from Draper Brothers in Canton after many years as a machinist. He was an avid reader and history buff and enjoyed watching sports. He was also a recreational pilot in his younger years. Jack was devoted to his family and will be remembered as a great husband, father and grandfather.
Jack was a longtime communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Church where he had been an usher for many years.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his loving children Michael Danahy and his wife Julie of Carver, Jim Danahy and his wife Maryjane of Duxbury; Mark Danahy and his wife Diane of Raynham and Karen Danahy of Brockton. He also leaves 10 grandchildren Christopher, Megan, Erin, Matthew, Rachael, Mark, Kate, Kelley, Michael and Mikayla. He was the brother of Mary Kelleher of Canton, Dolores Lane of Stoughton, Edward Danahy of Utah and the late Joseph Danahy.
Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (Rte 123) Brockton Wednesday at 8 am. Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 9 am. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater. Visiting hours Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8 pm.
