Obituary

GLOUCESTER: Margie June (Higgs) Macdonald, 79, died Thursday, October 1, 2009, from a prolonged illness. She was the wife of the late Herbert M. “Capt. Mac” Macdonald.
Born in Alberton, Maryland on November 20, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin H. and Cora G. (Reeder) Higgs.
The middle child of thirteen children, she was raised in Maryland and worked at several occupations. She moved to Gloucester in the late 1950s with her husband and children.
For forty-five years, Margie was a hardworking waitress on the Cape Ann for numerous restaurants, primarily the Blacksmith Shop, the Easterly, Captain’s Courageous and the Gloucester House.
She is survived by her four children, Susan, wife of Don Johnson of Gloucester, Sandra, wife of Edward Carpenter of New Hampshire, Betty Benner of Maine and Leon W. “Tiger” Macdonald of Florida; grandchildren Cynthia wife of Anthony Lucido, Megan Carpenter, Christopher Benner, Eric, Ryan, Travis and Kaitee Fraughton, Erin, Lydia and Benjamin Macdonald; numerous great-grandchildren including Jake and Jared Lucido, and Madelyn Parker Willet; a brother, Robert R. Higgs; sisters Florence Cunningham, Sharon Nash, Arlene Tarbart and Carolyn Marschall, all of Maryland; and friends Gail Goodhue, Josie Buotte and Viney O’Brien.
She was predeceased by brothers, Warner T., Benjamin Jr., Karl R. and Darius M. Higgs; and sisters Marguerite Deitz, Helen Pobletts and Janice Kump.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no services. Private interment will be held in Maryland, where she will be interred with her parents at Good Shepherd Cemetery in Ellicot City.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
