Obituary

Evans, GA – Anita Hughes Lutcher, 101, died Thursday, October 8, 2009 at the home of her son, C. Lawrence Lutcher, MD and daughter-in-law, Priscilla A. Gilman, MD. She was born on December 26, 1907 to Mabel and Percy Hughes of Heppner, Oregon. Mrs. Lutcher was the granddaughter of William Hughes, one of the first Irish immigrants to Morrow County, Oregon in the early 1870’s. Her father, Percy Hughes, filed a homestead claim near Heppner in 1909 and this land and adjacent properties were later developed into the Hughes family cattle ranch centered on Little Butter Creek. Mrs. Lutcher graduated from Whitman College in 1930 and married Lawrence J. Lutcher in 1933. They settled in Milton - Freewater, Oregon where they were founding member of St. James Episcopal Church. She was a member of P.E.O and had long-lived interests in public education, in development of the Columbia River Gorge, and in Irish ancestry.

Mrs. Lutcher was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence J. Lutcher, and her daughter, Suzanne Colgan.
Survivors include her son, C. Lawrence Lutcher, MD and wife Priscilla A. Gilman, MD of Evans, GA; son-
in-law, Richard Colgan of Newberg, OR; five grandchildren, Lawrence K. Lutcher and wife Roberta of
Heppner, OR, Shawna Todd and husband Glenn of Evans,GA, Loren Derk Lutcher and wife Sandra of
North Hollywood, CA, Sarah Muzzin and husband Gary of Birmingham, MI, Stephen Colgan and wife
Susan of Silverton, OR, and eleven great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at St. James Episcopal Church in Milton-Freewater, OR at a time yet to
be determined. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Colgan-Lutcher account at the
Medical College of Georgia Foundation, Inc., 1021 Fifteenth St., Suite6. Augusta, GA 30901-3197.
