Mrs. Germaine D. (Portelance) Richard, age 91, a longtime resident of Lowell, died late Wednesday evening October 7th, 2009, at her residence. For over 60 years, she was the beloved wife of Leo J. Richard.
She was born in Lowell on October 5th, 1918, daughter of the late Theodore & Marie (Portelance) Portelance.
She and her husband were parishioners of the former Notre Dame de Lourdes Church, in recent years she was a communicant of St. Margaret's Church.
Germaine was a proud homemaker most of her life and very much enjoyed raising her children and grandchildren. Prior to her retirement she had worked as a presser at several dry-cleaners in the area.
According to the family, she enjoyed activities at the Smith Baker Center, and also loved sewing.
Besides her husband, she is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, James H. Richard and his wife, Jill of Camden, Maine, John L.A. Richard and his wife, Jill of Nashua, and Leo T. Richard of Newburyport, MA; 10 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson; also several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was pre-deceased by several siblings including her twin sister Angie Beecher.
There will be no calling hours. Private Services were held at the convenience of the family with interment at St. Joseph Cemetery, Chelmsford.
