Obituary

John J. “Jack” Garden 82, of Franklin, died Wednesday October 7, 2009 at home surrounded by his family after a long illness. He was the beloved husband of Florence M. (Antonucci) Garden.
Born in Revere, August 8, 1927 a son of the late John and Marion (White) Garden he had resided in the Boston area before moving to Franklin in 1961.
He was raised and educated in Chelsea, and until his retirement many years ago worked as an elevator mechanic for Boston Local #4 and was also the state inspector for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Mr. Garden served his country proudly, in the United States Navy during WWII and attained the rank of Ship Fitter 2nd/c he was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged in July 1947.
He was the Past Commander of V.F.W. Post 1526 in Medway, a communicant of St. Brendan’s Church in Bellingham, and enjoyed camping, hunting, range shooting, antique cars, playing the guitar, watching the New England Patriots and spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife of 60 years, he is survived by a son Richard I. Garden and his wife Bernadette of Carver, a sister Norma Warren of Revere, his grandchildren Angela, Pierce, and Conor Garden and several nieces & nephews. Also surviving is a close family member Doreen (Mendall) Constranstano of East Dennis.
He was the father of the late Bruce J. Garden who died in 1974 and the brother of the late George Garden & Gladys Davis.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral with military honors on Saturday Oct. 10th at 10:30AM from the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. Franklin (www.oterifuneralhome.com) with a funeral Mass in St. Brendan’s Church 384 Hartford Ave. (Rt.126) Bellingham, MA 02019 at 11:30AM.
Interment will follow in the family lot in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Franklin.
Calling hours are Friday Oct. 9th from 4~8 PM.
