Mary P. Swihart, 85, of Hampstead, NH died Friday August 22, 2003 at her home following a lengthy illness. She was born in Lawrence, MA on February 25, 1918, the daughter of the late Edward and Ellen (Gately) McCarthy. She was a resident of Hampstead for 5 years, formerly living in Lawrence where she was raised. She graduated from the Danvers State Hospital RN program. She attended Simmons College, Northern Essex Community College, and Merrimack College. After becoming disabled during World War II, she was honorably discharged from the US Army as a First Lieutenant. She was a member of St. Anne’s Parish in Hampstead. She was predeceased by her husband William H. Swihart in 1972.
She is survived by two sons, Mark Swihart and his wife Ellen of New Sharon, ME, Patrick Swihart a Lawrence Firefighter and his wife Christine, two daughters Mariellen DiIeso and her husband Paul of East Hampstead, NH, Clare Robichaud and her husband John of Hampstead, with whom she resided, 16 grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. She was predeceased by three sons William, Carl and Plazz.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday August 26th at 10:30am at St. Anne’s Parish, 26 Emerson Avenue, Hampstead. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Lawrence. Friends may call at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry, NH on Monday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9pm.
