James D. Lynch, of Woburn, died Monday evening, October 5, 2009, after a lengthy illness. He was 78.
Mr. Lynch was born and raised in Charlestown, the son of the late Eugene and Helen (Kinsley) Lynch. After service in the Navy during the Korean War, Jim was married and eventually settled with his family in Woburn. Jim was a crew chief for American Airlines for over 40 years before his retirement. He was a great sports enthusiast and reveled in the success of the Red Sox and Patriots. Through the 1980’s he coached girl’s softball in Woburn and guided his team to the championship. He loved traveling to Aruba with his wife and family and especially enjoyed time spent with his loving grandchildren.
He was the beloved husband of Lillian (Vallone) Lynch. He was a devoted father to James Lynch, Jr. of San Diego, CA, Janet Bailey of Hooksett, NH, Judy Schuster and her husband Chris of Groton. He was a loving Grampy to Kate, Abigail, Julia and Christopher. He is survived by his dog Alfie. He was a dear brother to Sr. Bernadette Marie Lynch, OP of KY, Theresa Thompson of Foxboro, Mary Gallagher of Malden, Jack Lynch of Tewksbury, the late Eugene, William and Herbert Lynch.
His funeral will be from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., Woburn, Saturday at 9 AM, followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Charles Borromeo Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Friday 4 - 8. Services will conclude with burial Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
