Obituary

William J. Spark III, 60, of Mattapoisett died Sunday October 4, 2009 peacefully at Brigham and Women's Hospital surrounded by his family after an 18 month battle with leukemia. He was the husband of Janice (Perry) Spark.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Marilyn (McElwee) and William J. Spark, Jr., he lived in Mattapoisett all of his life.

Mr. Spark was formerly employed as a school teacher at the Center School and Old Hammondtown School for over 30 years until his retirement.

He received his Bachelor's degree from the University of Vermont and his Master's degree from Lesley College. He was a member of the Center School Building Committee and the Mattapoisett Yacht Club. He was an avid sailor, cyclist, surfer, runner, and potter.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Seth Spark and his wife Jody of Marion and Kyle Spark of Mattapoisett; two brothers, Anthony J. Spark and his wife Janice Lowery-Spark of Mattapoisett and Steven J. Spark of Seattle, WA; and two granchildren, Kayla and Jacob Spark.

His Memorial Service will be held on Monday October 12, 2009 at 11 AM at Ned's Point, Mattapoisett. In case of inclement weather, the service will be held at the Mattapoisett Congregational Church. Visiting hours are omitted. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445-7226.
