Obituary

Robert Francis Murray I of Duxbury, MA, passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2009, surrounded by his family, after a courageous year-long battle with cancer; he was 64.
Robert was born on November 22, 1944 to the (late) Vincent and Dorothy Murray. He attended Marshfield Public Schools, graduating from Marshfield High School. Mr. Murray graduated from U-Mass at Amherst with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. He enjoyed 37 years of teaching which included one year in Gardner MA, 15 years at Martinson Junior High School, and 21 years at Marshfield High School, until his retirement in 2003. During his teaching career, Mr. Murray served as a track coach, varsity hockey coach, and junior varsity baseball coach.
On October 23, 1971, he married his best friend, Lorna (Hallam) Murray, and together, they shared in the joy of raising 5 sons; his family was his greatest treasure, and he eagerly anticipated every moment where his sons, and their families, would gather. He was a man of "traditions" with his favorites being Christmas Day, and an annual family vacation every August at his Log Cabin on Watchic Pond in Standish Maine. His bright smile captured the moment, as he sat in the background and watched his family, most recently his grandchildren, spending time together.
Mr. Murray lived for his summers in Standish Maine, but also enjoyed driving out to UMass Amherst for football games in the fall, and traveling to Fort Ticonderoga every summer, all with his wife, Lorna.
He was passionate about History and enjoyed adding to his wealth of knowledge by reading and watching videos. An avid sports fan, he loved watching sports, especially Bruins hockey and Red Sox baseball.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Lorna Hallam Murray, his 5 sons, Keith and his wife, Lee-Ann (Pepicelli) Murray of Wakefield, MA., Robert Murray Jr. of Farmville, VA., David and his wife, Lauren (Russell) Murray of Methuen, MA., Thomas Murray and his girlfriend Felecia Marino of North Attleboro, MA., and Michael and his wife, Marcia (Ward) Murray of Marshfield MA., four sisters, Patricia and her husband Ronald Massa of Scituate, MA., Kathleen and her husband Gregory Cahill of Plymouth MA., Christine and her husband Robert Cahill of Plymouth MA., and Elizabeth Nickerson of New Bedford, MA.; his devoted friend David Sadowsky of New Milford, CT., and his 5 grandchildren, Nicholas, Logan, Brian, Tessa and Tristan.
