Mary B. (McGrath) Mahfuz, a 30 year resident of Melrose and formerly of Malden, died on Sunday, October 4, 2009, at The Atrium in Danvers following an extended illness. She was 85 years old.
Mary was born in Chelsea on April 14, 1924 to the late James and Nora (Glynn) McGrath. She grew up in Everett and attended St. Joseph's Grammer School and graduated from Chevrus High School in Malden. Mary then attended Boston University and graduated with a degree in History. She was an active member of The Boston University Alumni Association. Mary was an avid reader. She also involved herself in the many activities at Most Blessed Sacrament Church in Wakefield where she was a member of Most Blessed Sacrament Church Womens Guild. Mary was a homemaker where she dedicated herself to her husband and 6 children.
Mary is the beloved wife of the late Albert Mahfuz. She is the devoted mother of Arthur L. Mahfuz and his wife Linda Konnersman of Boston, James J. Mahfuz and his wife Linda Hart of Chelsea, Geoffrey H. Mahfuz and his wife Beverly of Dracut, Clare Moss and her husband Stephen of Brunswick, Maine, Alice Brown and her husband Gary of Melrose and Mary L. Schwengel and her husband Gavin of Oregon. She is the loving Grandma to Justin, Nora, Tristan, Emily, Hanna and Noah. She is the beloved sister of the late Clare Noonan.
Mary's Funeral will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2009, at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 1159 Main Street, Melrose, followed by her Funeral Mass in The Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main Street, Wakefield, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, October 7, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial wiil be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
