Obituary

Augusta, GA – He fought the good fight and won as he entered the arms of Jesus on September 30, 2009. He was 66 years old. Mr. Holsonbake retired from the Augusta Fire Department after 30 years of service. He received a heart transplant at St. Joseph Hospital in Atlanta in 2002. He was a member of Central Christian Church and also the Woodmen of the World. He will be remembered as a wonderful father and grandfather.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at Central Christian Church with the Rev. James McDaniel and Chaplain Tommy Cox officiating. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the memorial service.

Mr. Holsonbake is survived by his wife of 43 years Connie Huffman Holsonbake; two sons, C. Scott Holsonbake and wife Shannon, and Christopher L. Holsonbake and wife Jaquline; four wonderful grandchildren, and one step grandchild, Payton Holsonbake, Hailey Holsonbake, Ansley Holsonbake, Brantley Holsonbake, and Carley Guill; a special cousin, Frances Moses, and lots of other relatives and friends.

Charles was preceded in death by his father, George Holsonbake, Sr.; his mother, Florence Holsonbake; his brother, George W. “Pete” Holsonbake; and his sister, Elizabeth Holsonbake.

Charles was a man who truly believed that it is better to give than to receive. His generosity knew no bounds and he shared his love of laughter with all who knew him. He loved going to yard sales buying things that he usually gave away. You never went to his house to visit that you didn’t leave with a small trinket. Charles will be missed for his jokes and humor, but never forgotten.

Many thanks go to Odyssey Hospice for their loving and kind help. Patricia Wortham who was an Angel never saying “no” when asked to lend a hand. Morty and Andrea Rickerson for their love and devotion through it all, and Marcerletta English what a great friend you have been. Collins Mitchell for your many visits and all the Firehouse “shop talk” you shared with Charles. Tommy Neal, you’ve been like a brother to me. God bless all of you.

Honorary pallbearers will be current and retired members of the Augusta Fire Department, the elders and deacons of Central Christian Church, and a dear friend, Larry Sconyers.
