Obituary

Mr. William J. “Bill” Hawko, age 85, retired Lieutenant of the Medford Fire Dept., passed away in his home Wednesday following a brief illness. Born in Medford he was the son of the late John and Annie (Cullen) Hawko. He was the beloved husband of 58 years to Joan M. (Jordan). Mr. Hawko was a life long resident of Medford and served the community as a fire fighter for many years. Mr. Hawko was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII. He was a member of the Retired Fire Fighters Assoc. and enjoyed taking day trips with his wife and friends to the Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun Casinos. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Bill´s memory to the Jimmy Fund Tribute Program, One Harvard St. Brookline, MA 02147.

In addition to his wife Mr. Hawko is survived by his daughter Gertrude Peckham and her husband Jeff of Georgia, sons Philip of Medford and Stephen and his wife Barbara of Quincy. Mr. Hawko is preceded in death by his son Kenneth W. Hawko.He is also survived by his grandchildren, Sandra Flanagan, Michael Peckham, Stephen Jr., Matthew and Bridget Hawko and great grandchildren Margaret and Grace Flanagan. He is further survived by his brother John Hawko of Malden.

Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home 306 Main St. Medford, Saturday at 9:30 AM. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in the Immaculate Conception Church 600 Pleasant St. Malden at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Friday 2-4 & 7-9. Services will conclude with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
