Shepardson, Irene (Raymond), a 40 year resident of Marshfield, died peacefully at home on September 25, 2009. Beloved wife of 47 years of Robert P. Shepardson. Dear mother of James and his wife Yenju of Arlington, Texas, William and his wife Patricia of Indianapolis, Indiana, Edward Shepardson, Dorothy Carlson and her husband Edward of Ipswich. She is also survived by many loving grandchildren. Irene was born January ll, l923 in W. Warwick, R.I. to Oscar and Teofila Raymond. She was the older of two daughters.
After high school, she attended the R.I. State Nursing School, and then joined the Army Nurse Corps in l945 as a 2nd Lt. She served in the Philippines and after the atomic bombs were dropped and Japan surrendered, she was stationed at one of the first hospitals set up by the Army of Occupation in Japan. Following her separation from the service she earned a BS in nursing at the newly formed Boston College School of Nursing, graduating in l95l. Irene worked as a nursing supervisor at Newton-Wellesley Hospital until l952 when she was married to Robert , from Millis, MA, whom she had met at B.C. Irene did private duty nursing from time to time while raising her family. She will be remembered for both her feistiness and endearing ability to reach out with humor and engage people at all levels. She enjoyed the fuzziness of her teddy bear collection, the diversity of yard sales and the company of family and friends.
Funeral from the MacDonald Funeral Home, l755 Ocean St., rte. l39, Marshfield on Friday, Oct, 2 at 8 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Christine’s Church, l295 Main St., Rte. 3A, Marshfield at 9 a.m.
Visiting hours Thursday 4 to 8 p.m.
Interment will be in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
