...Tewksbury matriarch; 84
TEWKSBURY - Catherine M. "Kaye" (Brown) Peters, age 84, the matriarch of a well known Tewksbury family, died unexpectedly from an apparent heart attack while vacationing in Cabos San Lucas, Mexico, on Saturday morning, September 26th. She was with her husband of 60 years, Peter M. "Pete" Peters, with whom she would have celebrated a 61st wedding anniversary on November 11th.
She was born in Cambridge, a daughter of the late Frederick and Catherine (Sullivan) Brown, was raised in Cambridge, and graduated from the Cambridge Latin High School. Upon graduation she went to work for New England Telephone as a telephone operator, but left her job to devote time to raising her family. She moved her family to Tewksbury in 1951, where she was an active member of St. William's Parish.
She will be remembered for her quiet strength, warm smile, love of gardening, shopping, crocheting, and her devotion to her family.
She was mother of nine children, Cathy Whitten and her companion, Michael McIntire of Tewksbury, her late daughter Christine Delaney, who is survived by her husband Thomas Delaney Sr. of Bonita, FL, Michael D. Peters of Tewksbury, Vicki Golen and her husband Richard Golen of Tewksbury, David A. Peters, and his wife Edna (McIntire) of Tewksbury, Maryann Laferriere and her husband Scott Laferriere of Tewksbury, Sandy Martel and her husband Arnie Martel of Tewksbury, Philip M. Peters and his wife Laura (Tremblay) of Stow, and Patty Martel and her husband Mark Martel of Tewksbury; grandmother of 16, Thomas Delaney Jr. of Windham, NH, Michael Delaney of FL, Kevin Delaney of Dracut, the late Linda Peters, and David Peters Jr. of Tewksbury, Kerry and Jennifer Laferriere of Tewksbury, Katie, Arnie and Jill Martel all of Tewksbury, Diane Peters of NY, and Mark Peters of Boston, Mark Martel Jr, Peter, Timmy, and Joey Martel all of Tewksbury, two great grandchildren, Macy and Hunter Delaney; and was sister of the late Helen Murphy.
Her Funeral Mass was held Friday, Oct. 2, in St. William's Church, Tewksbury. Burial followed at Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorials to either St. William's Church, 1351 Main St., Tewksbury, MA 01876 or the Tewksbury Food Pantry, 999 Whipple Rd., Tewksbury, MA 01876 will be appreciated.
