Carol A. (Santos) Lomba, 64, of New Bedford died September 25, 2009 at home after a long illness.
She was the beloved wife of Arthur J. Lomba with whom she celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on August 16th.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of Anna (Fernandes) Anastacio of New Bedford and Clarence Santos of Worcester, she lived in Bridgewater for most of her life before returning to New Bedford in 2003.
Mrs. Lomba was formerly employed by Bridgewater State College for 20 years until her retirement as administrative assistant.
She enjoyed reading and meditating with her devotional books, travel, cruising, decorating and computer games. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.
Her family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Brian Erickson and all the staff at Hawthorn Cancer Center for their many years of excellent care given to Carol and to Southcoast Hospice for their care and support.
Survivors include her husband; her parents; 2 daughters, Michelle Soule and her husband Richard of Austin, TX and Noelle Querzoli and her husband David of Easton; 5 brothers and sisters, Margaret "Peggy" Gilmette of New Bedford, Joseph Santos, Jeannie "Mimsie" Wilson and her husband Glen and Linda Ward and her husband James, all of Worcester, David Santos of Canada; 4 grandchildren, Abigail, Nolan, Andrew and Evan; her mother-in-law, Diah DaLomba of New Bedford; her sister-in-law, Lucy Balla and her husband Ray of Taunton; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was the grandmother of the late Caroline Soule and the sister of the late Patricia Ferreira.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, September 29th at 10 AM at the First Church of the Nazarene. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours Monday, September 28th from 4-8 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Southcoast Hospice, 200 Mill Rd., Fairhaven, MA 02719.
