Obituary

Ludowici- Marvin “Governor” Griffin, age 68, passed away Thursday, September 24, 2009 at his residence. He was born in Brantley County and lived in Ludowici over thirty years, was a 1959 graduate of Nahunta High School where he played on the 1958 State Championship Basketball team. He attended Valdosta State College on a basketball scholarship. He was owner/operator of Griffin Trucking Company, was an avid outdoorsman and loved to fish. He enjoyed his morning coffee and friends at Parker’s and listening to country music, and was a member of Nahunta Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his son, Wesley Marvin Griffin.

He is survived by his wife: Josie Goode Griffin of Ludowici; daughter: Terri Graham and husband Nick of Hinesville; son: Chris Griffin of Ludowici; four sisters: Vera Blocker of Fernandina Beach, FL, Chan Crosby of Moss Point, MS, Hazel Lee of Hoboken, Corene Lewis of Dublin; two brothers: Coleman Griffin of Nahunta and Melvin Griffin of Ocala, FL; grandchildren: Nicole Graham and Wesley Graham.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 27, 2009 at 2pm from the Ludowici First Baptist Church with the Reverends Ian Johns, Justin Long, Eric Rentz, and Leon Wilson officiating.

Interment will follow in the Concord Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 5 until 8 pm at the funeral home.

Active Pallbearers will be Randy Wilson, Wayne Stanley, Franklin Dunham, Darwin “Possum” Kelly, L.G. Mitchum, Stanley Harris, and Hubert Wilson.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Cecil Nobles, Craig Nobles, Donald Parker, Clarence Skipper, Benny Gilbreth, Joe Phillips, T.J. Gaskin, Leland Beecher, Winn Dunham, David Flory, Robert Parker, Jr., Justin Gordon, Edward Pitts, Ryan Davis, Gene Davis, Jacob Pitts, Kevin Davis, Julian Willis, Bo Dynham, Justin Long, Ferrell Smiley, Earl Austin, Greg Middleton, Wilford Morris and All Poker Run Riders. Also, In Memory of friends, Jack Anderson and Sonny Boy Skipper.
