Joseph L. "Buddy" Halliwell Jr, a 44 year resident of Wakefield and former 4 year resident of Malden, died on Thursday, September 24, 2009, at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose following a lengthy illness. He was 76 years old.
Buddy was born in Revere on July 19, 1933. He grew up in Revere where he attended Revere Public Schools and graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in Revere in 1951. He enlisted into the United States Army on January 20, 1954 and served his country during the Korean Conflict. He was discharged on December 30, 1955 with the rank of Private First Class. Buddy worked as an auditor for BlueCross BlueShield Insurance Company for more than 23 years. He retired in 1988. Following his retirement, Buddy began working for the Town of Wakefield Council of Aging driving the elderly from 1989 to 1992. He also delivered meals to shut-ins in Wakefield during the holiday's for many years. Buddy took tremendous pride as dedicated volunteer for over 15 years at My Brothers Table in Lynn.
Buddy is the beloved husband of 48 years to Irene M. (Doucette) Halliwell. He is the devoted father of Michelle DiBella and her husband Marc of Wakefield. He is the loving Papa to Brian and Ashley DiBella. He is the beloved brother of Mary Gilbert of Maine and the beloved twin brother of the late Joan Morley. He is the beloved brother-in-law of Ruth Woodford and Donald Doucette both of Wakefield. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Buddy's Funeral will be held on Monday, September 28, 2009, at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 1159 Main Street, Wakefield/Melrose line, followed by his Funeral Mass in The Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main Street, Wakefield, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours will be on Sunday, September 27, 2009, from 2 to 6 p.m. Burial will be at Forest Glade Cemetery.
