Obituary

Everett “Slim” A. McConnell, 82, of Dartmouth passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2009 peacefully at home. He was the husband of Shirley L. (Cachia) McConnell.

Born in Fall River, son of the late Anthony and Margaret (Harnett) McConnell, he grew up in Fall River and spent most of his adult life in Dartmouth. A veteran of WWII, he served his country in the United States Navy as a Yeoman 3rd Class on the USS Avery Island. Slim was best known as a manager at Lincoln Park Amusement Park in Dartmouth from 1941 until 1986. He was a member and past president of the New England Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions and a member of the IAAPA and the OABA. He also worked at Salisbury Beach in Salisbury, MA and Old Orchard Beach, ME until his retirement in 1997. Mr. McConnell was a lifetime honorary member of the Dartmouth Police Department and a member of the Dartmouth Special Police Dept. He enjoyed living on Lake Noquochoke, water skiing, boating and jet skiing.

Including his wife, survivors include 7 children: Patricia Brost, Joseph and his wife Susan, Thomas and his wife Baunie, James and his wife Karen, Mark and his wife Tracy and Sandra all of Dartmouth and Charles of Westport; a sister: Florence Gosselin; 10 Grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was brother of the late Margaret McManus and Dorothy Clifford.

Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Monday, September 28, 2009 from the Potter Funeral Home at 8:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. George Church, Westport at 9:00 A.M.


Calling hours Sunday 2 - 5 P.M.

Interment in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
