Muriel J. (Rice) Peterson, 86,a longtime resident of Whitman ,died peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Monday, September 21st .She was the beloved wife of 63 years to the late Wallace A. “Wally” Peterson, whom passed away in July.
Born and raised in Brockton, she was the daughter of the late Percy and Hazel (Hyndman) Rice. Muriel was a graduate of Brockton High School, Class of 1941.
She worked at Linehan Store in Brockton, the Foxboro Company for many years and also Muriel worked in the Whitman – Hanson Cafeteria.
She was a member of the former St. Mark’s Church of Abington, what is now the Joy in Christ Church.
Muriel and Wally raised their family in Whitman and after several happy years of retirement in Ocala, Fl., they recently returned to Whitman to be with family.
Muriel is survived by her children Paul E. Peterson and his wife Kathleen of Taunton, Gail J. Hussey, Mark S. Peterson and his wife Carole, and Timothy Peterson and his wife Robin all of Whitman, her grandchildren Jimmy-Paul, Theresa, Lisa Hussey- Jazon and her husband Ian, Jason, David, Erica, Rob and TJ, Her sister Shirley Hendrix of Hanover, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Arlene Tirrel, Gloria Calnan and Donald Rice.
Her funeral service will be held Saturday, September at 11:00 AM in the Joy in Christ Church, RT 18, Bedford Street,Abington. Burial will be held at a later date. Visiting hours will be held in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman on Friday September 25th from 5:00-8:00PM .Donations in her name may be made to the Joy in Christ Church, 21 S.
