MURPHY, Joseph M., Sr.- Of Malden, September 21st. Beloved husband of the late Mary (Joyce). Devoted father of Joseph M. Murphy, Jr. and his wife Jane of Braintree, Mary Freeman and her husband Joseph of South Dennis, Maureen Hass and her husband Brian of North Reading, Michael Murphy and his wife Karen of Stoneham and the late Patrick and Kevin Murphy. Dear father-in-law of Marguerite Murphy of Brookline and Mary Murphy of Falmouth. Loving brother of Helen Carten of Newton and the late Neil, Nora Mae, William, Eugene and Francis. Cherished grandfather of 13 and great grandfather of 3. Also lovingly survived by many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend a Funeral from the Carroll Funeral Home, 721 Salem Street, (Maplewood Square) Malden of Friday, September 25th at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Joseph's Church, 770 Salem Street, Malden at 10 o'clock. Visiting Hours in the Carroll Funeral Home on Thursday from 4-8 PM. Services will conclude with interment at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Expressions of sympathy in Joseph's name may be made to the Hospice ot the South Shore, 100 Baystate Drive, Braintree, MA 02184.
Born in Boston and a resident of Savin Hill in Dorchester for many years, Joe, at 82 years of age, passed away late Monday afternoon at his sons home in Braintree after a short illness.
A member of the Malden community since 1973, Joe worked as a truck driver for National Casket Company in Cambridge and in Medford when the company moved it's headquarters. A World War II Army veteran and member of Teamster's Local 25, in his retirement he worked as a crossing guard for the City of Malden most recently at the Linden School.
