Obituary

Brooks Barnes, a lifelong resident of Plymouth, passed away on September 22nd at the age of 88 at the Newfield House. Daughter of the late Philip and Mercie (Hatch) Barnes, she is survived by her brother Souther Barnes and her sister Mercy Barnes Moore both of Plymouth and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Sister of the late Parker and Philip Barnes Jr. Brooks graduated from Plymouth High School Class of 1939 and from Sweet Briar College in 1943 and received her bachelors degree in nursing from Columbia-Presbytarian Hospital in 1946. She worked as a registered nurse and a nursing administrator at Children’s Hospital for 30 years. Brooks was a member of the First Parish Unitarian Church and a member of its Alliance in Plymouth, the Pilgrim Society, the Black & White Club, Mayflower Descendants, Antiquarian Society,
Jordan Hospital Club and a member until her death of the Jordan Health Systems Corporation. A memorial service will be held on Saturday September 26th at the First Parish Church in Plymouth at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in her memory be made to the First Parish Church Restoration Fund, 19 Town Square, Plymouth, MA 02360; Jordan Hospital, 275 Sandwich St, Plymouth, MA 02360 or to the Pilgrim Society, 75 Court St, Plymouth, MA 02306.
