Emile J. Monfils, 90, of West Wareham died Sunday September 20, 2009 at the home of his son. He was the husband of the late Anna M. (Montigny) Monfils.
Born in Worcester, the son of the late Joseph and Alice (Ouellette) Monfils, he lived in New Bedford for many years before moving to Wareham.
He was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church in Wareham and former communicant of St. Lawrence Church in New Bedford, where he was a member of the choir.
Mr. Monfils was formerly employed as a textile chemist for Arkwright Finishing in Fall River and later for CNC Chemical Co. in Providence.
Mr. Monfils and his late wife spent eight years serving in the Trinity Southern Missions in Alabama, Florida and Tennessee. During World War II, he served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Medical Administrations Corps in the Aleutian Islands.
Survivors include three children, Paul R. Monfils and his wife Barbara, and Robert E. Monfils, all of Providence, and Mary A. Nuhibian and her husband John of Norfolk, MA; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 AM at St. Lawrence Church. Visiting hours will be on Saturday morning from 8:30-9:30 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Missionary Servants of the Most Blessed Trinity, 107 Holy Trinity Rd., Fort Mitchell, AL 36856.
