Robert L. Dawes, of Plymouth formerly of Lakeland, FL and Braintree, passed away on September 19th at Jordan Hospital at the age of 89 with his beloved wife of 62 years, Lillian (MacKenzie), by his side. Robert was born in Cambridge and graduated from Thayer Academy. While attending Norwich University in Northfield, VT he enlisted in the U.S Army where he served in the Special Forces and received 3 battle stars, invasion arrowhead and bronze star and jungle fighter during WWII. After living in Braintree for 25 years where he worked as the animal control officer for 10 years, he and Lillian retired to Lakeland, FL where they lived for 25 years before moving to Plymouth. Along with his wife Lillian, Robert is survived by his son Roy Dawes and his wife Karen (Derman) of Plymouth and their daughter Shaina. Robert also leaves many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Saturday September 26th at 11 AM at the South Congregational Church in Braintree. A private burial will be held at the National Cemetery in Bourne at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the South Congregational Church , 1075 Washington St, Braintree, MA 02184.
