Fred R. Perry 86 years died June 22, 2009 at Beth Israel Medical Center. A resident of Brockton he was the loving and devoted husband for 58 years of Virginia (Chamberlain) Perry. Born in Avon on March 7, 1923 Fred was a graduate of Avon High School and was pursuing an engineering degree at Northeastern University when WWII began. During the war he served with the US Marines in the Pacific Theatre aboard the USS Sante Fe which assisted in the rescue effort of the sinking USS Franklin.
Fred established and was the proprietor for 37 years of the grocery store Ridgeway Sales (The Bargain Spot) in Brockton. In his retirement, he assisted his daughter Judy with her company, Greyson Confections.
Fred had been a member of the Paul Revere Masonic Lodge for 44 years, having served as Master and also leading the Chapter, Council and Commandery bodies within the organization. Fred was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Stoughton and a former member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Brockton where he had served as a Sunday school teacher and on several church committees.
An avid reader Fred also enjoyed traveling and cooking. He had successfully completed a barn building project in Maine over the past two summers. Fred will be remembered as a faithful Christian and a devoted family man.
In addition to his wife he is survived by 3 daughters Nancy Martin and her husband Frank of Brockton; Carolyn Cross and her husband Greg of Easton and Judith Perry and John Costantino of Brockton. He also leaves 2 granddaughters Julia and Diana Cross and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late James Perry, George Perry and Marguerite Belcher.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday September 26, 2009 at 11 am in the Trinity Episcopal Church 414 Sumner Street, Stoughton.
