Michael Scott Bickel
...former Jockey; age 61
TEWKSBURY - Michael Scott Bickel, age 61, died Sunday morning, September 20, at his home, surrounded by his family, following a courageous, and faith filled, battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Helen L. (Jones) Bickel, with whom he had celebrated a 13th wedding anniversary this past June 22nd.
He was born in Dodge City, Kansas, a son of Beth (Spear) Bickel of Tewksbury, and the late Roy E. Bickel. He lived in the mid-west in his early years, where he was well known in the horse racing world for his skills as a jockey. He came east to Massachusetts in 1991, and was most recently employed as an estimator for the Carbone Metel Fabrication Company in Chelsea.
Mr. Bickel was a devout and faithful member of the North Shore Bridge Church in Beverly.
Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by a son, A. Vincent Ularich of Somerville; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Allen and Vicki Bickel of Biloxi, MS, Richard and Ava Bickel of Edmund, OK, Bob and Diane Bickel of Shawnee, KS; four nieces and nephews, Melinda Curry and Shelly Pasco both of East Boston, Wayne Bickel and Dow Bickel both of OK; great niece, Linda Wagner; great nephew, Mario Pasco.
He was also brother of the late Linda Pasco.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, Sept. 26, at 2:00 p.m. in the North Shore Bridge Church, 100 Cummings Center, Suite 135D, Beverly, MA 01915. In lieu of flowers, Memorials to the church will be appreciated.
