George C. Dyer

...Retired Tewksbury Police Officer, Age 81

TEWKSBURY - George C. "Gigi" Dyer, 81, died Sunday, September 20, at Wingate at Lowell Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Residence. He was the husband of the late Shirley (McNeice) Dyer, who predeceased him in 1982.

He was born in Cambridge, March 6, 1928, and was the last survivor of six children of the late John and Marcella ( Farrell ) Dyer. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp during peacetime years between WWII and the Korean War. Upon discharge, he served as a Reserve Police Officer before his appointment as Patrolman on June 6, 1967. He worked as a Patrolman for the Tewksbury Police Department until a heart attack forced his retirement on February 1, 1971. He worked at Penney's Auto Body in Tewksbury and later Towne Auto Body in Lowell after retiring from the police force. He was a member of the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks Lodge 2070, the Tewksbury DAV Post 110, and a member of the AFL-CIO Teamsters Local 25 in Boston.

He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law; Kathleen and John Judge of FL, Jeanne and Gerald Colton of Lowell, Patricia and Lawrence Daley of Tewksbury, three grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and his longtime companion Barbara Hague of Tewksbury.

A Committal Service with U.S.M.C. Honors was held Wednesday, September 23, in the Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorials to the M.S.P.C.A. at Nevins Farm, 400 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844-2052, will be appreciated.
