Stanley K. Flower, 93, of 17 Justins Court died May 3, 2003 in the Laconia Center, Genesis Eldercare Network. He was born in Manchester NH on March 19, 1910, the son of Joseph and Victoria (Mastal) Kwiatek “Flower”.
Raised in Manchester, he attended Northeastern College of Pharmacy and interned at Smith’s Pharmacy in Manchester. He received his Registered Pharmacist License in 1931. In addition, he attended the certified OTC Institute in Ohio and matriculated from the American Academy of Sciences in New York City.
Stanley began his career as an Assistant Pharmacist at the State Pharmacy in Manchester and later worked for Cleary’s Pharmacy in Greenville, NH; where he met his future wife, the former Dorothy Bourgeois. They married in 1936. He later was employed by Sullivan’s Drug Store and also at the Waters Funeral Home in Concord. In 1940, he answered an advertisement and began employment at the new Whelan Drug Store in Laconia for seven years and later at the Laconia Clinic for eight years. An astute businessman, he purchased the B.C. Hall Drug Store and the Paul Hevey Drug Store and operated the Flower Medical Center Pharmacy until his retirement in 1975. During a twelve-year period beginning in the mid ‘40s he owned and operated the Flower Funeral Home. Following his retirement he divided his time between Florida and Laconia until June 2000, when he returned to Laconia full time.
He was a member of the NH Pharmaceutical Association and the NH Funeral Directors Association. He was also a charter member of the local chapter of the American Society of Consulting Pharmacists. In 1985, he was honored by the state Board of Pharmacy for “Exemplary Service of 50 Years”. He was also a charter member of the Medical Center Building.
Mr. Flower was a communicant of St. Joseph Church in Laconia and was a Life Member and Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus, Laconia Council # 428. He held membership in the Laconia Elks Club, the Laconia Country Club and the Seven Springs Country Club of Florida.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Bourgeois) Flower of Laconia; a son, Cedric Flower and a granddaughter Lara Flower; a sister, Anna Kwiatek of Manchester NH; several nieces and nephews.
There are no calling hours. A Memorial Mass was celebrated in St. Joseph Church, Laconia on Thursday, Aug. 21st at 11 AM. . In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lakes Region Scholarship Foundation, PO Box 7312, Gilford NH 03247-7312 for the Stanley K. Flower Scholarship. Timothy C.
