Methuen: Mrs. Theresa M. (Marcoux) Hamel, 83, died Sunday at the Nevens Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre. Born in New Britain, CT, Mrs. Hamel had been an area resident all of her life. She graduated from St. John School of Nursing in Lowell. Mrs Hamel had worked at the Malden Mills and U.S. Bobbin and Shuttle Co.. Prior to her retirement she was a school nurse and public health nurse having been employed by the City of Methuen and was a member of St. Monica Parish . She was also an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed many crafts, especially Japanese Bunka. The sister of the late Sister Bernadette Marcoux, SCIM, Mrs. Hamel is survived by:
her husband of 61 years: John Hamel
3 daughters: Joanne & her husband John Gallagher of Methuen
Denise & her husband Brian Cassidy of Magnolia
Beth Hamel of Haverhill
1 son: Jeffrey & his wife Penny Hamel of Methuen
1 sister: Cecile McGowan of Florida
6 grandchildren: Stephen & Jack Gallagher, Robert & Jeremy Cassidy, and Ashley & Nicole Hamel.
1 great-grandson: Skylar Cassidy
There are several nieces and nephews.
A Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 9:00 am, at St. Monica Church. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, at the Racicot Funeral Home, 256 Broadway, Lawrence.
