Obituary

Mr. James J. Lee, age 91 of Lowell died Tuesday in Brighten At Medford following a lengthy illness. Mr. Lee was born and educated in Medford, son of the late James and Elizabeth (Baker) Lee. He worked as a carman for the Metropolitan Bay Transit Association (M.B.T.A.) for over 35 years retiring in 1980. A former Medford resident, he had also lived for many years in Tyngsboro and Chelmsford. He served in the United States Navy during WWII, achieving the rank of Machinist Mate 2nd cl. during which time he was a member of the seabees. He was an avid runner and ran the New York Marathon in his 60’s. He loved square dancing and was well known as a Ham Radio Operator. He was a member of the VFW in Medford and the American Legion in Tyngsboro. Mr. Lee is survived by three daughters, Roberta Rash and her husband Harry of Delaware, Robin Cole and her husband Charles of South Carolina, and Tracey Lee Swana and her husband David of Littleton, 2 sons, James Blankenship and his wife Patricia of Florida and Alvin Lee of Wrentham. Also survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Friends may call Friday from 4 thru 8 at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis Of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford, Saturday at 10:00 am. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Burial will follow in the WWII section of Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. Contributions in Jim’s name may be sent to the Medford VFW Post 1012, 114 Mystic Avenue, Medford, MA 02155.
