Obituary

WEST BOYLSTON__Helen C. (Pogorzelski) Lizewski, 86, of West Boylston, formerly of Worcester, died Monday, Sept. 14, 2009 in Beaumont Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Worcester. Her husband, Edward Lizewski died in 1975.

She leaves two sons, Thomas P. Lizewski and his wife, Diane of Worcester and the Rev. John M. Lizewski, of West Boylston, Chaplain of Anna Maria College, Paxton; a daughter, Maribeth S. Kusz and her husband, Gary of Worcester; six granddaughters, Amy, Andrea and Kristin Lizewski and Olivia, Hilary and Rachel Kusz; two sisters, Harriet “Hedwig” Sadowski of Millbury and Genevieve “Gwen” Starr of West Boylston. She was predeceased by four brothers, Stanley, Mitchell, Walter and Francis Pogorzelski and a sister, Genevieve Pogorzelski. She was born in Worcester, a daughter of Boleslaus “Benjamin” and Saturnina “Sadie” (Trzczaska) Pogorzelski.

Mrs. Lizewski retired in 1988 from the Thom McAn Co., after 36 years of employment. She graduated from St. Mary's High School and Salter’s Secretarial School. She was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church. Helen was a loving, dedicated mother and grandmother. She was proud of her Polish heritage which she shared with many. Besides spending time with her family, she also enjoyed crocheting, and flower gardening, as well as traveling to Florida and Cape Cod. Helen will always be remembered for her love and pride that she had for her family and especially her granddaughters. She was so proud of their academic and athletic accomplishments over the years and was a cherished and amazing grandmother. We were truly blessed to be part of her life and the loving legacy she leaves behind. "We love you Babci". The family would like to thank the Fallon Clinic Oncology dept. for all their care and support during Helen's illness. They are also grateful to the VNA Hospice, its nurses and volunteers. Helen's final days were restful and dignified due to their compassionate care.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, September 17, from HENRY - DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward Street, Worcester with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward Street, Worcester. Her son, the Rev. John M. Lizewski will be the principal celebrant. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours in the funeral home are Wednesday, September 16, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105
