Bedford-On Monday Marlene Joyce Bryan passed away at Elliot Hospital after a brief illness.
Marlene J. Bryan was born April 15, 1936 in Bronx, NY, the daughter of Maurice and Pauline (Schuman) Hamel . She attended Donald St. School in Bedford, NH and was a 1954 graduate of Manchester West High School, where she excelled in art. She was also a graduate of NH State Hospital School of Nursing in 1957 where she earned her nursing degree. She practiced medical and surgical nursing in Jersey City Medical Center, Beth Israel Hospital in Boston and the three hospitals in Manchester. In 1982 she contributed her skills to her husband’s dental practice for the ensuing 43 years.
Although she had many interests such as horticulture, boating, arts and crafts, interior decorating. Her most enjoyable times were with her grandchildren, whether it be at the beach, cruising the ocean, or teaching them how to make things grow.
A gentle southeast breeze on a warm August day sailing down east aboard “Schatzi”, a 9 M Sailboat, with her sons and husband was one of the joys of her life.
Marlene is survived by her husband of 48 years Roland H. Bryan D.D.S. Her two sons: Douglas E. Bryan
of Cohasset, MA who is married to Leslie Bryan and their two children Victoria and George. Roland R. Bryan D.M.D. of Bedford, NH married to Evelyn Bryan D.M.D. with their two children Gabrielle and Roland Ethan.
Marlene was a member of the Bedford Red Devils, Red Hat Society, New Hampshire Hospital Alumni Assoc.
and the Bedford Presbyterian Church in Bedford, NH.
Services:Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 PM at the J.N. Boufford & Sons Funeral Home, 110 Bridge St., Manchester. Funeral Liturgy will be held on Saturday at 10 AM in Bedford Presbyterian Church, 4 Church Road, Bedford. Pastor Karen Hagy will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford.
