BEVERLY: Roberto E. Real, 81, formerly of Colgate Road, died Sunday, September 13, 2009 in the Essex Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Beverly following an extended illness. He was the husband of the late Norma (Casco) Real who died in January 1999.
Born in Lanus, Argentina on April 18, 1928, he was the son of the late Antonio and Rosario (Gomez) Real. He moved with his family from Argentina to the United States, residing in Beverly since 1962.
He played First Division Professional Soccer for Lanus in Argentina. After fulfilling his military service in Argentina, he continued to work as an aviation mechanic and pilot. While in the U.S. he worked as a field service engineer and mechanic until his retirement in 1993.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Nestor and Patti Real, two daughters and sons-in-law, Miriam and Tim Kearns and Nancy and Liam Flannagan, two brothers, Ricardo Real of Barcelona, Spain and Osvaldo Real of Lanus, Argentina and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral services will be held on Thursday in the Central Cemetery, Beverly at 1 p.m. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday in the Grondin Funeral Home, 376 Cabot Street, Beverly from 6 – 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.
