GUYER, BENJAMIN LEE, SFC (RET), 77, loving husband of Norma Guyer, passed away Friday, September 11, 2009.
Born in Jefferson County, AR, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mertie Guyer. He had served in the US Army during both the Korean conflict and Vietnam War and was awarded Good Conduct, Purple Heart, Vietnam Campaign and Vietnam Service medals and the Combat Infantry Badge. He had retired from the US Army as a armor crewman and also retired from AAFES after 15 years of service. He was a member of the Camp Knox Lodge No. 919 F. and A.M., American Legion and VFW Posts and the DAV.
He was preceded in death by his son, David Kitchen.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, the former Norma Zirnheld; children, Phyllis Carlock, Gary Guyer (Janet), Kathy Kessinger and David Guyer (Cris); a brother, Henry Guyer; sisters, Betty Ann Taylor and Lavina Pitt; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be noon Tuesday at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Hwy., with burial to follow in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central.
Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Monday.
