Obituary

LOWELL- David E. Layte, 69, a longtime Lowell resident, died Friday, September 11th, at his home, after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Emily F. (Rosenberger) Layte, with whom he celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary on June 20th.

He was born in Somerville on April 8, 1940, and he was a son of the late Eugene and Helen (MacKenzie) Layte. He received his education in Littleton schools.

Prior to his retirement, Mr. Layte was employed for many years as a selector by former Purity Supreme, in it's warehouse facility in Billerica. Following his retirement from Purity, he was employed as a paper carrier for the Lowell Sun and the Boston Globe. Most recently he was employed by Affordable Firearms in Pelham, NH.

He was a member of the Teamsters Local 25.

He was an avid collector of anything and everything that caught his eye, especially guns and boats. In his free time he enjoyed deep sea fishing and lobstering and held commercial licenses in both. He also enjoyed camping in Maine, doing crossword puzzles, and spending time with his devoted dog Winni and his granddog Zara.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Robert E. Layte of Lowell, Kevin D. Layte and his wife Linda of Dracut, and Steven J. Layte and his wife Kimberly of Lowell; a daughter, Kimberley A. Carignan and her husband Timothy of Tyngsboro; six grandchildren, Gillian Layte of Dracut, Christopher Layte of Lowell, Erica Layte of Lowell, Nicole Layte of Dracut, Victoria Layte of Dracut, and Kayley Carignan of Tyngsboro; a brother, Howard Layte and his wife Dorothy of Escondido, CA; a sister, June Comley and her husband George of Westford; two brothers-in-law; Joseph Rosenberger and his wife Helen of Dracut, and Robert Rosenberger and his wife Sharon of Ayer; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was also the father of the late John M. Layte, who died February 7, 2006.

It being his wishes, calling hours have been omitted. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service on Thursday at 12 Noon at the St. Joseph Cemetery Chapel on Riverneck Rd. in Chelmsford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the American Liver Foundation, 246 Walnut St., Newton, MA 02160.
