Valdimero "Val" Rebello, 87 of New Bedford died September 12, 2009 at St. Luke's Hospital unexpectedly after an accident.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Manuel and Maria (Oliviera) Rebello, he lived in New Bedford most of his life.
He was formerly employed as an optician for Dr. Leonard Pacheco for many years until retirement.
Mr. Rebello served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of American Legion Post 1. Dancing was his passion and he also enjoyed music and golf.
Survivors include his son, Ronald Rebello and his wife Shirley of Dartmouth; a daughter, Linda Gleicher and her husband Joel of Clearwater, FL; his former wife, Frieda (Souza) Rebello of Dartmouth; 4 grandchildren, Kevin Rebello, Laura Jenkins, Mark Gleicher and Lisa Gleicher-Smith; 4 great-grandchildren, Eric, Sean, Julia and Alexis; 3 sisters, Gilda Costa of California, Maggie Alves of Canada and Alice Grove of Ohio; his companion, Dorothy Botelho of New Bedford and her grandson Kevin Pedro and his wife Stephanie and their son Jayden.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Wednesday, September 16th at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Julie Billiart Church at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours Tuesday, September 15th from 4-8 PM.
