Marguerite F. “Peggy” Simons (Handfield) age 71 of Canton passed away September 11th at the St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Brighton. Born and raised in Springfield, she graduated from Mass General Hospital School of Nursing, received her Masters in Counseling from Bridgewater State College, and received her Nurse Practitioners’ Degree from Northeastern University. She worked as a Nurse Practitioner for the Mass Hospital School in Canton for many years. She has lived in Canton since 1960 and was an active member of the community where she was President of the League of Women Voters, a member of the Canton Garden Club, a member of the Town Finance Committee, a member of the Recreation Department , a Eucharistic Minister & CCD Teacher at St. Gerard’s Church & a Cub Scout & Camp Fire Girls Leader. She was also a Docent at the McMullen Museum at Boston College & a member of the Board of Directors of Catholic Charities South in Brockton. Beloved wife of Richard A. Devoted mother of Joshua E. Simons & his wife Randi of Sharon, Carl W. Simons & his wife Tong of E. Falmouth, Julie S. Droney & her husband Henry of Canton & Jonathan M. Simons & his wife Maureen of NJ. Sister of the late Elizabeth Guidette. Cherished grandmother of Maria, Alexandra, Sean & Daniel Simons of E. Falmouth, Matthew, Colin & Marguerite Droney of Canton & Emily & Abigail Simons of NJ. Loving aunt of Eric Finn of Framingham. Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home 455 Washington St. Canton Tuesday (2-4) & (6-8). Funeral mass at St. Gerard Majella Church Canton Wednesday morning at 10. Interment Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
