In Raynham, September 8, 2009 Doris L. (Gadry) Holmes a North Dighton resident died at the age of 86. She was the wife of the late William L. Holmes. Mrs. Holmes was born in Taunton. She grew up in East Taunton and was educated in the Caswell Grammer School and Taunton High School, graduating in the 1940 class. Doris has resided in North Dighton since 1946. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church now St. Nicholas of Myra in North Dighton. She worked as a telephone operator and operations assistant at New England Telephone Co. and Verizon for 27 years in Taunton, Brockton and Boston. She was a volunteer at St. Joseph’s Bingo for many years and a volunteer at Morton Hospital and Medical Center for over 16 years. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Oakland Seniors Club. She was Chaplain and Treasurer of Oakland Seniors Club for 10 years. She loved luncheons and playing cards with her Lady friends on Wednesdays and bingo. She was the daughter of the late Peter & Victoria (St. Don) Gadry. She is survived by a daughter, Eileen B. Smith and Two granddaughters, Reanna Vazquez & her husband Jose and Tara Smith, one great grandson Jose Vazquez Jr. She is the sister of Roland Gadry and the late Loretta Skwarto, Lillian Beaulieu, Raymond Gadry and Robert Gadry. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral from the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington St. in Taunton on Friday, Sept. 11th at 11am. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Nicholas of Myra Church in North Dighton at 12pm. Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Thurs. from 4-7pm.
