Sanbornton-----Robert S. Cooke, Jr., 84, of 139 Winter St., Tilton, NH, died at the New Hampshire Veterans Home, Tilton on Friday, September 4, 2009. Mr. Cooke was the widower of Phyllis J. (Talfor) Cooke who died March 2, 2005.
Mr. Cooke was born March 28, 1925 in Queens Village, New York, the son of Mabel (Wilkens) and Robert S. Cooke, Sr. He served in the U. S. Navy during WWII and was a member of the New York National Guard. He lived in Lochmere, N.H. for several years before moving to Sanbornton over twenty years ago, then to NH Veteran’s Home.
Mr. Cooke was the owner of the Rails and Crafts Hobby Shop for twenty-two years. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Sanbornton; a member of the Gilford Rotary and a member of the Masons, Chocorua Lodge.
Mr. Cooke is survived by two daughters, Debra J. Hardy of Penacook, and
Pamela A. Watson of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; six grandchildren, Erin T. Heald, and her husband Bud, of McKinney, TX, Scot Hardy, and his wife Jenna, of Merrimack, Bryn P. Colby, and his wife Jesse, of Penacook, PFC Sayr Hardy of Manchester, and Bethany A. Jenkins and Darby J. Alwood, and her husband Brad, both of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; six great grandchildren, Sawyer and Chloe Hardy of Merrimack, Zachery and Michael Jenkins of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Connor Heald of McKinney, TX and Brady Colby of Penacook; brother, Alvin Cooke, and his wife Jennifer, of New York, New York and sister, Betty Jean Kubernack, of Greenville, New York; one nephew and four nieces.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday, September 9, 2009, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, N.H.
A Funeral Service will be held on September 10, 2009 at 12:00, noon, at the Merrimack Valley Railroad Station, (corner of Park St. and Main St.), Northfield, N.H.
Pastor Chris McMicken of the Second Baptist Church, Sanbornton, NH will officiate.
Burial will follow at 3:00 pm at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, N.H.
