Doris M. (Sullivan) Gildea, 87, a longtime Medway resident, died September 7 in Milford Regional Medical Center. She was the wife of the late Richard P. Gildea who died in 2003.
Born in Springfield, November 1, 1921, the daughter of the late John J. and Esther (Gunn) Sullivan, Mrs. Gildea was raised in Springfield and had lived in Winthrop for many years before moving to Medway in 1961.
Mrs. Gildea was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Daughters. She enjoyed reading and traveling and was a passionate fan of the New England Patriots since 1960.
She is survived by her children; Christine Hunewill and her husband Richard of New Hampton NH, Patricia Higgins and her husband Michael Altobello of East Wareham, Richard P. Gildea Jr. of London England, Mark Gildea and his wife Laurie of Milford, Pauline Sheehan and her husband William of Mendon, Thomas Gildea and his wife Elizabeth of Millis, Sean Gildea and his wife Susana of Franklin.
She is also survived by her sister Arline Morrissey of Weymouth.
She was the sister of the late Jacqueline Porter.
She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Her funeral will be held on Saturday, September 12 from the Ginley-Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St., Medway at 9:15 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church at 10:00 a.m.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Calling hours will be on Friday from 4-8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to St. Judes’ Research Hospital for Children, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Her family would especially like to extend their thanks to the staff of Milford Regional Medical Center for their compassion and kindness to their mother during her final days.
